This is WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE!

I have become, over the past couple of weeks, very excited about Spike Jonze's big screen version of "Where the Wild Things Are". Why? Because of two reasons. Growing up this storybook was among my favorites that wasn't a Dr. Seuss or Robert Munch story. I still have a copy of it sitting on my coffee table and I am almost 25. It speaks to the kid inside everybody. Second, Spike Jonze is a remarkably talented director who doesn't get enough of the credit he deserves. Sure he turned heads with "Adaptation", but before then he was making music videos scream to life and directed a really cool Skateboarding flick for Girl Skateboards called "Yeah Right" in which Owen Wilson hops on a skateboard and grinds a rail down a set of stairs (ok, it might have been Eric Koston in a blond wig, but still). He also had a couple of memorable cameos in the first Jack Ass movie. Anyways, the man who got Christopher Walken to dance is helming this much anticipated project, and all I can say is, I can't fucking wait! Here are some pics I recently found.

Some more news. Hollywood is pushing hard on remakes. I have recently heard rumors of "The Birds", the Alfred Hitchcock masterpiece, being remade. If anyone one on top of mount "don't give a damn" can here me, please don't do this! Especially when you have names like Michael Bay attached to produce. Ugh. Don't! You should have learnt your lesson with the "Psycho" remake, or do you think it'll be different this time around. One, "The Birds" is a loose and if not handled correctly, cheese ball premise about a wave of killer fowl striking the human population which won't be accepted by the crowd of 2010. Two, like movies such as "Gone with the Wind", "Citizen Kane", "Breakfast at Tiffany's" etc. it came from the golden age of Hollywood and should be left untouched, period.

But keeping with remake theme, work has already started on a "Poltergiest" reboot, which might be interesting, but still, un-needed. However, here is some remake news I'm actually excited about. The Coen Brothers have agreed to put their spin on "True Grit" the classic western that won John Wayne is only Oscar statue. This might be interesting since the Coen Brothers' thrillers are widely viewed as "neo-westerns" (No Country for Old Men, Blood Simple). So their take might actually have something fresh to offer. But who will play John Wayne's Rooster Cogburn, the tough sonofabitch with the eye patch? Only time will tell, and I trust the Coen's with whoever they pick...as long as it's not George Clooney.

Anyways, some news for ya. Here are some picks from me to you.
